Susan F. Bucklin, 77, of Willimantic, wife of the late William F. Bucklin, passed away Tuesday August 30, 2022 at Windham Hospital. She was the daughter of the late Joseph and Madlyn (Dacey) Fitzgerald.
Born on March 2, 1945 in Norwich, CT, she grew up in Willimantic and lived there the majority of her life. Susan attended St. Joseph’s School in Willimantic and graduated from Windham High School in 1963. She earned a bachelors degree from Eastern Connecticut State University (then Eastern Connecticut State College) in 1970 and a masters degree in education.
A life-long educator, Susan began her teaching career at St. Mary St. Joseph School in Willimantic. In 1989 she accepted a teaching position at Windham Technical Vocational High School, where she retired from in 2007. An active member of the community, Susan was a member of the Irish Club of Willimantic and volunteered for various events and causes including organizing reunions for her high school class. She greatly enjoyed traveling in the U.S. and abroad. She was an avid UCONN Women’s Basketball fan and also looked forward to her weekly set back games at the Lebanon Senior Center.
She is survived by a son, Peter Bucklin, of Willimantic, a daughter, Kate Bucklin, of Franklin, and a grandson, William “Mac” Bucklin, with whom she had a special relationship and enjoyed taking on adventures often, and many close friends.
