Obituary for Theresa (Murphy) Young
Theresa Murphy Young, 86, of Lebanon, joined her beloved husband Walter on January 10, 2010. They had been married almost 60 years before Walter passed away in December of last year. Born on October 14, 1923 in Willimantic, Theresa was the daughter of the late Thomas P. Murphy Sr. and Susan O’Hare Murphy both originally from Armagh, Northern Ireland. She was the second oldest, and only daughter, of nine children. She was predeceased by six brothers, Raymond Sr., James, Thomas, George, Fred and Robert. Before she was married she worked at the American Thread in Willimantic and later retired from the University of Connecticut as a switchboard operator.
She leaves five children who loved her very much, Mary and husband Christopher Kelly of Killingworth, Walter Jr. and wife Uta of Scottsdale, Arizona, Joan (Coley) and husband Tom Montemerlo of Lebanon, Dave and Chuen-Tai of Phoenix, Arizona and Tim of Brooklyn and 8 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren; two brothers Douglas Murphy of Mansfield and Daniel Murphy of Windham and many nieces and nephews..Â
There will be no calling hours. A Mass to celebrate Theresa’s life will be held on Monday, January 18, at 10 a.m. at St. Joseph’s Church on Jackson Street in Willimantic, with burial to immediately follow at St. Joseph’s Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to The Connecticut Hospice, Inc., 100 Double Beach Road, Branford, CT 06405.
