Obituary for Timothy A. Quinn
Timothy Allan Quinn, 85, of Mansfield, widower of Julia (Lynch) Quinn, died on Sunday, January 16, 2011, of natural causes. Born in Hartford on June 18, 1925 to Thade and Marjorie (Ellershaw) Quinn, he was raised mainly in Methuen (Mass.) with his late sister, Shirley (Quinn) (Kaiser) Garber. He graduated from Keith Academy in Methuen, and the Ithaca College School of Music (President of the Class of 1950). He was Director of Music for the Windham (Conn.) Public Schools and Director of the High School Band and Choral Ensembles, later retiring as Vice Principal of Stafford High School. His service to others (*often as Chair or President) included – in Mansfield: Town Council (including the first Council, and later as Deputy Mayor), *Board of Ed., *Zoning Board of Appeals, Charter Revision Commission, Strategic Plan Committee, *Commission on Aging, *Senior Center Association, *Democratic Town Committee, Constable, Fire Department, Lions Club, Boy Scouts. Regional: *EastConn and *W.R.P.A. Boards of Directors, Auxiliary State Police, Deputy Sheriff, Percussionist/Timpanist with various regional ensembles, including the Willimantic City Band (later as Conductor), *Local 403 of the Am. Fed. Of Musicians, Connecticut and Windham Education Associations (*CEA and *WEA), *Northeast (of the USA) Regional Board of Planning Associations. To our country: Army Air Corps/WW II; Air Force/Korean War and Active Reserve, retiring as Major. He is survived by his daughter and her husband, Sheila and Ken Clark of Mansfield Center; his granddaughter Helen Clark of Ithaca, NY; nephew John Garber of Cazadero, CA; and several cousins. Calling hours: Thursday, 1/20/11, from 3 to 5, and 6 to 8 p.m., at the Bacon Funeral Home, 71 Prospect St. Willimantic, CT. His Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Thomas Aquinas in Storrs at 10 AM on Friday, followed by burial, with full military honors, in the Pink Cemetery, Bonemill Rd. Mansfield.
