Obituary for Walter H. Albert
Walter H. Albert, age 88 of Mansfield Center passed away peacefully on January 7, 2012 at Douglas Manor in Windham, CT. He was the loving companion of Joyce Smith for 30 years. He is survived by a daughter, Mirian Albert and two sons, Walter Albert and James Albert. He was also the stepfather of two daughters.
He retired in 1981 as a Corporate Pilot for United Technology Corporation. He served in WW II as a Naval Aviator flying Hellcats in the Pacific Theater. Walter went on to pilot many other types of airplanes and helicopters both in the Navy and the Connecticut Army National Guard concluding his military service holding the rank of Major in 1983. He received numerous awards and decorations for his flying skill and heroism as demonstrated repeatedly throughout his long and proud career.
Visitation will be Thursday, 1/12/12, from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. followed by funeral services at 10:30 a.m. at the Bacon Funeral Home, 71 Prospect St. Willimantic, CT. Burial, with full military honors, will follow in the Pink Cemetery on Bone Mill Rd. Storrs, CT.
