Obituary for William Robert Bacon
William Robert Bacon, 88, of Windham, beloved husband of Theresa Roy Bobeck Bacon, passed away peacefully April 8, 2011 at Douglas Manor in Windham Center, CT. He was born August 11, 1922 in Willimantic, CT the son of Arsene and Maria (Theroux) Bacon. Bill retired from Pratt & Whitney in 1981 after 35 years of employment. He moved to Florida in 1983 returning to Connecticut 13 years later. During World War 2 he served in the Navy as an Ordnanceman aboard the USS Chenango in the Pacific. An avid hobbyist, Bill assembled and flew radio-controlled airplanes and was a member of the Northeastern Drone Society of Coventry/Mansfield CT. He was a communicant of St. Margaret Church in Scotland, CT. Besides his wife, his survivors include two sons and daughters-in-law: Scott D. and Mary P. Bacon of Mansfield Center, CT and Mitchell W. and Audrey L. Bacon of Storrs, CT; two granddaughters: Ann L. Bacon and her friend Nathan Sunner of North Rockhampton, Queensland, Australia and Karen A. Bacon and her friend Bryan Rogers of St. Amant, Louisiana; two grandsons: Michael C. Bacon and Andrew A. Bacon both of Storrs, CT. He also leaves a brother, Delphis A. Bacon of West Hartford, CT and a sister, Irene Zimmerman of Branford, CT. Also surviving are several nieces and nephews and his former wife, H. Anita D. Bacon of Mansfield Center, CT. He was predeceased by his second wife Germaine T. Bacon and sisters: Claire Curran, Therese Bock, Rita Mallon and Helen Riordan. His family will receive friends Tuesday, 4/12/11, from 6 to 8 p.m. and again Wednesday, from 9:30 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. at the Bacon Funeral Home, 71 Prospect St. Willimantic followed by a procession to St. Margaret Church, Route 14, Scotland, CT for the celebration of his Funeral Mass at 11:00 a.m. Burial, with full military honors, will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery in Windham.
