Obituary for Yvette Alice Marchand
Yvette Alice Marchand, 89, of Chaplin, CT, peacefully entered into eternal rest at Windham Hospital, Willimantic, CT on Sunday October 21st, 2018.

Born July 16th, 1929, to Evangline and Philias Marchand, raised in Willimantic, CT she attended St. Mary St. Joseph’s School. She became a devoted member of St. Mary’s church for many years. Yvette would pray every day since being unable to attend church. Yvette worked locally for American Thread, Electromotive Company and University of Connecticut from which she retired.
In her early years, Yvette enjoyed her summer vacations at Misquamicut Beach in Rhode Island with her lifelong friend Jeannette (Gaudreau) Serwanski and family. Yvette and Jean shared a lifelong friendship which started during their working careers. After the death of Jean’s husband Teddy in 1983, Yvette moved in with Jean to keep her company. The two, shared laughs and fun. They enjoyed singing old songs from their younger days, watching classic black and white movies, shopping and cruising around visiting family. Yvette spent time going on bus trips to Atlantic City, Red Sox games and their love of Foxwoods Bingo. They had their Friday night ritual of going to the hair salon, bingo and slots till the wee hours, talking about their winnings during their late-night rides home. She loved all the holidays with Christmas, by far being her favorite holiday. Yvette was known for her fudge, amazing crepes and her love a good root beer float.

Yvette was a very kind and gentle person with a heart of gold. Always, caring for others before herself. She was a true gem of lady and will be sadly missed by all who knew her.

She is survived by her very long-time friend and companion, Jeannette (Gaudreau) Serwanski, brothers Vitale Marchand from Willimantic and Alfred Marchand from Florida, her extended family & caregivers Kathy (Serwanski) Patera, two special girls and which she thought of as grandchildren, her god daughter Tammy (Serwanski) Browning and Kara (Serwanski) Green. She leaves behind two special children in which she treated as her own great grandchildren Drew and Avery Green and many nieces and nephews. She is predeceased by her three brothers Roger, Andy and Gerald and her sister Claire.

We extend a special thank you to her live-in aids. Mary and Wilhelmina who cared for her for the past year.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St Mary’s Church, Willimantic, Ct.

There will be a graveside service, in which Yvette will be interred alongside her parents, on Friday 10/26/2018 at 10:00AM at St Joseph’s Cemetery on Club Road in Willimantic, CT
