Obituary for Nina Orine Ricardez
Nina Orine Barnhill Ricardez, 75, of Windham, CT died Sunday, March 28, 2021 at Windham Hospital. Born Feb. 3, 1946 in Conway, SC, she was the daughter of the late William Melton Barnhill and Margaret Florine Britton Barnhill. She attended Holmes Bible College in Greenville, SC and received a BA in Floriculture from UCONN. She moved to Windham, CT in 1977 and became well known in the community, where she was elected to a seat on the Windham Board of Selectmen, eventually becoming the Chair of the Republican Town Committee of Windham. She opened her own floralist, Flowers by Nina, in 1991 which she continued to run until she was forced to close its doors in 2014 due to health issues. She often attended services at St. Anne - St. Patrick Parish in Fiskdale, MA.
She was predeceased by husband Cuitlahuac "Cuit" Ricardez of 44 years, son Daniel Kevin Ricardez, three brothers: Allen Butler Barnhill, Robert Ellerbe Barnhill and W.M. "Dub" Barnhill, and three sisters: Margaret Barnhill Ivey, Geneva Barnhill Hardee and Linda Barnhill Proctor.
Surviving her are son Melton C. Ricardez of Windham CT, grandson Chris Scott of OK, granddaughter Dawn Marie Ricardez of CO, great-granddaughter Mila Marie Castillo of CO, two sisters Mary Barnhill Prince of Murrells Inlet and Virginia Barnhill Hucks (Charles) of Conway, SC, a special sister-in-law Nena Hair Barnhill of Calabash, NC, and numerous nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 PM - 7:00 PM Tuesday, April 06, 2021 at Bacon Funeral Home, 71 Prospect St, Willimantic, CT 06226. Interment will be in Popular United Methodist Church Cemetery in Conway, SC, at some yet to be determined date. www.baconfh.com
