Obituary for Leo G. Desjarlais
Leo G. Desjarlais, 81, of North Windham, beloved husband of 54 years of Theresa (Therrien) Desjarlais, died November 16, 2007 in Windham Hospital. He was born January 10, 1926 in Willimantic, where he lived most of his life, the son of Napoleon and Rose Alma (Beaulieu) Desjarlais. He graduated from Windham High School, where he played 4 sports. He received an Associate Degree from Eastern Connecticut State University. He worked for ECSU for 18 years before his retirement in 1988. Leo supervised grounds keeping for all Eastern’s athletic fields. After graduation in 1944, he enlisted in the Navy where he served for 2 years, earning the Bronze Star during the invasion of Okinawa. He was a member of the American Legion, V.F.W, the Franco-American Club and a communicant of St. Mary’s Church. He was very active in the Windham Youth Organization from the beginning as a manager, umpire and on its board of directors. He loved sports and enjoyed working with kids. Besides his wife, his survivors include, a son, Michael Desjarlais and wife, Debbie, a daughter, Nancy McNee and her husband, Michael McNee. Leo also leaves four grandchildren: Kristina McMahon, Carli Grauer, Timothy McNee and Aubrey Desjarlais; two great grandchildren, Anthony McNee and Kayli McMahon. He leaves a sister, Fernande Brandt. His family will receive friends and relatives Tuesday, 11/20/07, from 6 to 8 pm at the Bacon Funeral Home, 71 Prospect St. Willimantic. His Funeral Mass will be celebrated Wednesday at 10 am in St. Mary’s Church in Willimantic. Burial, with full military honors, will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery in Windham.
